Soda's Back

The Brief

Poppi is an American brand of prebiotic soda known for its "gut healthy" approach to the carbonated-beverage market. Launched in 2018, Poppi offers a variety of low-sugar flavors, each with 35 calories or less.

The goal was to create an ad for Poppi’s five core soda flavors, inviting consumers of all ages to sip on a more gut-health-friendly drink. The challenge? Keep it short, sweet, and bursting with the same joy and fizzy refreshment that makes Poppi so fun to pop open.

Design Approach

Going into this project, we chose to focus on the sound and sensory experience of that crisp feeling you get when opening a can of Poppi. To strengthen the brand’s visual identity, each flavor was showcased against its own signature colored background. Most importantly, highlighting the raw fruit ingredients alongside cinematic, zoomed-in fizz textures allowed us to emphasize Poppi’s freshness and playful appeal.

Production

From brainstorming and storyboarding, we moved into shooting frame by frame. These detailed shots required professional lighting and filming equipment, plenty of Poppi cans, an aquarium for the water scenes, and a variety of fresh fruits.

The most meticulous part was capturing movement clearly on camera, like dropping cans into water or spinning them while carefully controlling the lighting to avoid background shadows. After filming, we assembled everything in After Effects and added sound, bringing our Poppi ad to life.
